There are little things to be kept in mind when purchasing a home. A home, if possible should face in any direction but north. If the home faces south, at lease the front will not have snow and ice remaining, long after the temperature rose.
You will be amazed at how much less snow you need to clean up when your home faces in other than a northerly direction. Sometimes the snow melts while those facing north are shoveling the inch or two of snow, which seems never able to melt. Do not think that during summer the northern exposure is cooler. In summer, the winds will not be coming from the north, giving you no breeze in the summer.
If your home has a porch or deck, it is more comfortable if it faces east or west. At least for some portion of the day you can enjoy the sun without roasting. People do not consider this information when house-hunting, but it usually takes years to figure out. Now you know the secret without that wait.
